Winter racing.

"What's happening with racing?", you ask. Good question!!

Here is a list of the programme for the next few months. Some events are certain, others could change. And we have some potential new dates, too. But this is the current info.

27 May: club race on Bethanga circuit. Meet at the Bethanga pub from 2pm, ready to race from 2:30pm
17-18 June: Wangaratta Tour, hosted by Wangaratta Cycling Club.
24 June: club race from La Trobe University, Wodonga.
30 July: John Woodman Memorial Wagga-Albury Cycling Classic.

(There might be another La Trobe handicap in mid-July to tune up for the Wagga-Albury. The famous Dirt Berg will be back! And even more ideas are out there ...)

Spring racing, & beyond.

We're very happy to announce that AWPCC will be running a series of criterium races at the DECA driver training centre, 45 Albertson Rd, Barnawartha. That's in the Logic Centre.

Start date: Wednesday 12 October, fortnightly. Times to be announced. Entry of $5.Our plan is to have a number of races: juniors first, then as many races as fit the numbers who register. We aim to have A, B & C grades. It would be great to have women's-specific racing too. For those who are new to racing, we will have experienced riders to guide and inform.
Keep an eye on your inbox, and on the club's media, for final details.
There's also the summer tradition of velodrome riding about to start, too. See below for more track news.
A very brief advance warning: in early December we're planning a relaxed AWPCC Christmas party and club champion presentations. Probably in a park, near a BBQ, with all invited.

Velodrome news Great news - junior track this year is going to be run by Greg Featonby. Feato is a life member of the club for good reason. He has an immense amount of knowledge to pass on, as well as great love for the sport of cycling.
The relevant information: Monday afternoon, from 5:30pm, Pearsall St Lavington, starting Monday 7 November.
Senior training: join the crew training each Tuesday evening, 6:30pm-8:30pm at the velodrome.
Questions about track riding? Email the club.

Cycling Licences
To race with a club, you need to be licensed. The way to join is via this Cycling Australia link. If you join or renew from 1 October, the licence is valid until the end of December 2017.

Working Bee
The velodrome needs some love. We have a working bee planned for Saturday 15 October, from 2pm at the track. Please come with all your skills so we can clean up, check the bikes & other equipment, & make fun of each other. Contact person: Chris Little (0407 410 894)

What a day for a bike race!!! The sun was shining and the weather was warmer as everyone headed for Chiltern for today's club race. With the Wagga to Albury only two weeks away a large field turned up for today's handicap on the Geoff Dixon course. It was great to welcome riders from the Alpine Cycling Club as well as Tolland CC and Cootamundra CC which resulted in 32 riders turning up and making the handicapper work hard to try and get things right. Limit included a number of newbies with only a few races under their belt with a couple of old foxes. With a generous mark they were going to be hard to beat. Srcatch was strong and only 19 minutes back so there was a chance it could all come together at some stage. The middle bunches had other ideas and set a cracking pace in the first lap which saw the gaps shrinking. Half way through the second lap it looked like the race was all going to come together. Eli Beach, Jesse Featonby, Lachlan Hutchins, Brad Rose, Tim Guy and Gerard Wild were driving back bunch who had caught block before the end of lap 1. At 7km to go it was all together except for three limit riders who were going to go down swinging. Steve Dahl was first to pop. After his KOM winning effort from the Geoff Dixon he was looking to make the podium but it wasn't to be. He was eventually swallowed by the bunch on the outskirts of town. Rick Dyde attacked Paul Burns with and hung on to win by 30 seconds from the veteran Bended Elbow crooner. Lachlan Hutchins was 3rd and fastest time with Brad Rose and Marcus Warner (Alpine CC) filling out the top 5. Alpine's Carly Mackay rode strongly to finish with the main bunch and be first woman. It was great to see a limit bunch that included six riders who are in their first three races. Jimmy North, Mark Jones, Steve Young, Steve Dahl, Neil Quast and Rick Dyde are all new to racing so well done to you all. Thanks to all volunteers and commissaires for the day.
